This is an intense historical novel of the War with Japan.  Teenage marine, Henry Forest, lies about his age to escape an abusive home life and enlists in the military.  He is immediately sent to the Philippines where he finds himself in the middle of the Japanese invasion.  There he must grow up fast as he faces the Bataan Death March, overcrowded prisons, abusive prison guards and the Japanese factory in Tokyo where he is eventually sent as slave labor.
