Today I recommend Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia.
Eliza and Her Monsters is a fictional novel about teenager Eliza Mirk, the creator of a famous webcomic called Monstrous Sea. Online, Eliza is known as LadyConstellation and is very popular and cool. But in real life, Eliza is friendless, shy, unnoticeable and unsocial. But when Wallace Warland (Monstrous Sea’s biggest fanfiction writer) attends Eliza’s high school, she steps out of the shadows and tries to be more social in the real world.
This novel had many screenshots and drawings from the web comic. This made it unique and extra special. I got to read snippets from the webcomic, so I understood what the comic was about. Eliza had so many followers and viewers with so many replies, mean comments, kind praises, many hoping LadyConstellation would post more of the story each week. Eliza calls her followers “her monsters” because they expect lots of comic strips per week, and the comments can get quite harsh.
I found Eliza and her monsters to be an interesting story, and an ode to all fandom. Most novels I read take place in the past with not much technology. However, this book had a lot to do with the online world. I suggest this book to whoever likes romance books, being online, reading webcomics or for fans of Geekerella.
