Today I recommend: The Selection by Keira Cass.

Sixteen-year-old America Singer is living in the caste-divided nation of Illea, which formed after the war that destroyed the United States. America is chosen to compete in the Selection–a contest to see which girl can win the heart of Illea’s prince–but all she really wants is a chance for a future with her secret love, Aspen, who is a caste below her.

So this book isn’t new (first published in 2012) but after hearing from so many people that they enjoyed this book I knew I had to check it out. It was interesting to read a dystopian novel that focused more on the romance as opposed to any violence (think Hunger Games without the blood). It was nice to see America begin to realize that there was a lot of political games going on in the government, even if the love triangle as much of the focus on the book. The plot is fast paced and America is a spirited and interesting protagonist. I recommend this to anyone looking for a light romance but beware the cliff-hanger! You’ll want to check out the next book, The Elite, as well.

You can find the books in the Young Adult Fiction section at YA CASS.
