Today I recommend: Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson.
When Stevie Bell, an amateur detective, begins her first year at a famous private school in Vermont, she sets a plan to solve the cold case involving the kidnapping of the founder’s wife and daughter shortly after the school opened.
If the title doesn’t grab your attention then the dedication certainly would: “To anyone who has dreamed of finding a body in the library.” I have been searching for a good mystery/thriller to recommend and this one had everything that I was wishing for. The flashbacks to the kidnapping and murder in the 1930s are gripping and don’t give much away instead they ratchet up the tension! The protagonist Stevie is endearingly obsessed with mystery writers and true crime, and she makes for a great sleuth.
