Today I recommend: Save the Date by Morgan Matson.

When seventeen-year-old Charlie Grant’s four older siblings reunite for a wedding, she is determined they will have a perfect weekend before the family home is sold, but last-minute disasters abound.

I will admit that I was a little misled by the summary of the book and the adorable cover- this is not solely a light-hearted book about fluffy wedding hijinks. Charlie is dealing with the fears that come from trying to decide what to do with the rest of her life as she struggles to choose a college and dealing with the realization that her life and her family are not as perfect as the comic strip that her mother publishes about them would suggest. The inclusion of the comic strip panels at the beginning of each day in the book really draws you into the world of the Grant family! The sheer amount of things that go wrong as the wedding approaches starts to strain your belief but I couldn’t put the book down as I was rooting for all the siblings to work through their differences and celebrate their sister’s wedding. The romance takes a backseat to the family tensions in this book that is perfect for readers who prefer realistic fiction.

You can find this book in the Young Adult Fiction section at YA MATSON.
