Closing out this month of October, I am recommending a spooky novel, loosely inspired by the 1970’s bestseller, and hit movie, “The Amityville Horror.” This updated version is called, Amity by Micol Ostow. It is the story of two teens who narrate the terrifying days and nights spent living in a house of horrors. When Connor’s family movies to Amity, his nights are plagued with gore-filled dreams of demons, destruction, and revenge. Ten years later, Gwen’s family moves to Amity for a fresh start. She also becomes haunted by lurid visions, disturbing voices, and questions about her own sanity. Because Amity isn’t just a house. She is a living force, bent on manipulating her inhabitants to her twisted will. She will use Connor and Gwen to bring about a violent end as she’s done before. The house shares its bag of tricks with the famous Amityville incident: flies, the basement’s hidden red room, and of course dreams of grisly crimes. For those wanting to a good scare on a fall evening, Amity should fit the bill!
